Get to know the customer

tetrapy is a specialised telemedicine platform for the treatment of patients with medical cannabis - both via video and on site. They provide doctors and patients with a comprehensive infrastructure that digitally maps the entire treatment process. Their aim is to combine the highest medical quality with maximum user-friendliness - from booking appointments to issuing prescriptions securely.

At a glance

Since spring 2025, tetrapy has been using Certifaction for the digital signature of medical prescriptions issued via its own telemedicine platform. The medical prescriptions are legally signed with the qualified electronic signature (QES) in accordance with the eIDAS standard.

The challenge:

tetrapy wanted to have prescriptions digitally signed – “a paper-based process was out of the question. This is time-consuming, error-prone and simply outdated,” says Managing Director Alex Gutjahr.

As the platform specialises in private medical services, the gematik e-prescription linked to the statutory health insurance was also not a solution. They wanted to offer a legally valid, digital alternative and therefore set out to find a suitable QES provider.

Two other providers were tested: One was not technically reliable, the other was too expensive.

Customer requirements at a glance

  1. Creation of digital prescriptions without media discontinuity
  2. Legally valid signature with QES standard
  3. High availability and stability of the eSigning platform
  4. Good price/performance ratio and easy to integrate

The solution

With Certifaction, tetrapy has found the ideal solution: Simple integration into the company’s own platform – uncomplicated and supported by Certifaction. In addition, there was an attractive price-performance ratio.

tetrapy was particularly impressed by the Zero Document Knowledge technology. The prescriptions contain highly sensitive patient data that must be protected from access by third parties.

Thanks to the Zero Document Knowledge architecture, all documents remain fully encrypted and do not leave the tetrapy systems in plain text – a real security advantage that has made all the difference.

The integration was completed in a fortnight. The good documentation enabled the API connection to be implemented quickly. The solution was up and running and fully functional within a very short time.

The results

The tetrapy platform consists of three components: Patient portal, doctor portal and API. Prescriptions can be created in the doctor portal and then transmitted either via the patient portal or directly to a connected pharmacy.

Alex Gutjahr and his team praise the user-friendliness of Certifaction. The doctors confirm the prescription and then the visual signature is automatically placed in the designated position – without any manual effort.

The digital signatures have been very well received by doctors. The process is simple and familiar for them – there are no acceptance problems.

The Digital Twin is also a great help: when the prescription is printed out, its integrity can be checked digitally thanks to the integrated QR code.

FAQs

Our answers to the most frequently asked questions

Yes. Our eSignatures are legally valid and support all major global standards (incl. eIDAS, ZertES, UETA, ESIGN).

In addition, you can choose the signature type that suits you best: from the cost-effective simple eSignature to the qualified eSignature (QES).

Unlike most competing providers, Certifaction offers the option of signing documents without ever seeing their content. The documents are processed locally on the customer side and encrypted when using the web app.

In the case of API integration, a local gateway takes over the encryption. In the event of a hack, the file would therefore be encrypted and unreadable. We also ensure that the documents are stored on ISO 27001-certified servers in Switzerland or an EU country.

Yes, Certifaction offers a customised white label option for partners. This enables the seamless integration of own products such as eIDs and certificates. The white label solution gives partners complete control over the platform. As an integration partner, we help open up new revenue streams and maximise business potential by providing tailored solutions for individual needs.

The Certifaction WebApp can be used immediately in the browser. The eSignature solution can also be integrated quickly via an API connection. Alternatively, the solution can be used as a white label product with full personalisation. Depending on the requirements, this is ready within a few weeks.

Certifaction is a hybrid solution without a complex infrastructure. The connection is established via API or by installing the CLI client. This makes our eSignature solution more flexible and cost-effective than a solution that is operated in your own data centre.

Certifaction is characterised by its innovative technology and clear focus on partnerships. Our customers value us as a trustworthy European partner that not only offers close cooperation and the highest security standards, but also enables the integration of its own products through white label solutions. This opens up new business opportunities and additional revenue streams for our partners. Our solution offers:
